After judges described this year’s field as the strongest in the competition’s history, the finalists for the 2026 Mothertone Muster Talent Search have been revealed.
Twelve Open Category artists and six Junior Category performers have secured their place at the Gympie Music Muster, where they’ll compete for a prize pool worth more than $35,000 and the chance to follow in the footsteps of some of Australian country music’s most successful artists.
The Mothertone Muster Talent Search has become one of Australia\u2019s most respected country music talent competitions, helping launch the careers of artists including Brooke and Samantha McClymont, Mark O\u2019Shea, Drew McAlister and Brooke Schubert.
The 2025 Open Category winner Mackenzie Lee has recently returned from her prize trip to Nashville.<\/td><\/tr>
<\/a>\u201cI cherished every moment I spent in Nashville and am deeply grateful to Mothertone and the Gympie Music Muster for the incredible opportunities I’ve experienced since winning the Open Talent Search,\u201d Mackenzie said.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
\u201cThe atmosphere in Nashville was truly magical, and collaborating with Michael Flanders Productions on my recording was an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for my new song to be released later this year.
\u201cAdditionally, I had the chance to co-write with some exceptionally talented songwriters, which has definitely inspired me and reignited my passion for songwriting.\u201d
Talent Search Coordinator Michael Turner from Mothertone said the quality of entries had reached a new level in 2026.
\u201cThe thing we noted when looking at all the entrants was that the overall standard this year is the highest we\u2019ve seen,\u201d Michael said.
\u201cWe could easily have had 25 artists coming to the Gympie Muster in the Open category instead of the 12 selected. They\u2019re already making the judges\u2019 decisions hard, which is great to see.
\u201cThe Juniors will be strong this year too. There are some exciting talents we\u2019re looking forward to seeing. It\u2019s great to see new faces coming into this event in both categories, showing just how many new talents are coming through.\u201d
Gympie Music Muster Program Director Bec Anderson said supporting emerging artists remained a key part of the festival\u2019s commitment to Australian music.
\u201cThe Talent Search continues to provide an important platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent in front of festival audiences and industry representatives,\u201d she said.
\u201cWe are proud to continue supporting Australian country music and helping create pathways for the next generation of artists.\u201d
The Open Category winner receives a Nashville experience including showcases, recording sessions, mentoring and industry meetings, along with a full scholarship to the 2027 CMAA Academy of Country Music, a cash prize and a range of additional career development opportunities.
The Junior Category winner will receive mentoring, coaching, recording opportunities and a cash prize, while an Encouragement Award will also be presented.
The semi-finals will be held during the Gympie Music Muster from Thursday, August 27 to Saturday, August 29<\/strong>, with the Grand Final taking place on Sunday, August 30.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
