TAMMY MOXON SHARES NEW SINGLE ‘WHAT AM I TO DO’ + PERFORMING AT TAMWORTH COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL
Aussie songbird, Tammy Moxon, delivers her trademark contemporary spin on classic country with the swingin’ ‘What Am I to Do’.
“I love what Tammy does. She writes great, sings great and is not scared to be country,” praises legendary songwriter, Allan Caswell. ‘What Am I To Do’ is about as country as it gets – weeping fiddle licks, lonesome piano and Tammy’s vocal intertwine in this quintessential tale of love gone wrong.
“This was my first ever breakup song that I wrote after an actual breakup,” admits the singer-songwriter. “I wrote breakup songs before, but never experienced it until just before writing this song.”
Tammy initially penned the song over a decade ago when she was just 18. Rummaging through her old notebooks in preparation for her recent album, Fighting Chance, she stumbled across her old lyrics. “The original version was written on my Yamaha keyboard,” she recalls. “I laughed at the original lyrics. I was mad!! I had to dial down the original lyrics to the version you hear today.”
With multi award winner Shane Nicholson on board to produce, the song stayed true to its country roots. “He really leant into the old-school country vibe. The doo-whop backing vocals were all Shane’s creation.” It’s a throwback to the timeless swing of Patsy Cline, whilst remaining contemporary and it’s right at home for the singer-songwriter. “It’s the kind of country I was raised on. It’s nostalgic and fun.”
Just one piece of a large picture, ‘What Am I To Do’ is lifted from Tammy’s 2024 album Fighting Chance. The album was featured as Spotlight Album of the Week on ABC’s Saturday Night Country with Beccy Cole, whilst spawning multiple charting singles.
Tammy has featured her old-school sound on some of our biggest stages. She opened for Lee Kernaghan in 2023, in her hometown of Townsville, and has warmed up stages for Felicity Urquhart, The Bushwackers and Drew McAlister. This year just saw her take the stage at the Gympie Music Muster and she’ll soon be gearing up for a massive few shows at Tamworth Country Music Festival in January.
Tammy Moxon has “a traditional voice that blends modern country in a way that makes this lady unique… and totally original” – John Nutting (Australian Country Radio). With the release of ‘What Am I to Do’, she not only revisits a formative experience but bridges the gap between vintage and contemporary country, solidifying her reputation as a standout artist with a unique sound
