BRENDON WALMSLEY – NEW SINGLE – COOLADDI
Following the much-loved debut single and title track of Brendon Walmsley’s highly anticipated album ‘Road To Riverleigh’, comes a song whose story is sure to inspire.
Based on actual events, Brendon Walmsley’s second single takes us out into south-western Queensland to Australia’s smallest town – Cooladdi. In the grip of the worst drought in living memory, December brings little merriment to Cooladdi. Is a Christmas miracle for this often overlooked community too much to ask for?
‘Cooladdi’ sees Brendon Walmsley’s songwriting and storytelling mastery in full flight. Combined with Rod McCormack’s beautifully perceptive production, we find ourselves in the midst of the Cooladdi locals – caught in the heat haze of their despair, desperately searching the heavens for any sign of hope.
Brendon recalls that real-life moment. “What happened that night in Cooladdi went beyond expectation and explanation. To be caught in this story as it unfolded, a song demanded to be written.”
For almost a decade, Brendon has joined a team of volunteers passionate about bringing a little bit of Christmas connection to outback communities by providing a free concert and BBQ event known as ‘Christmas for the Bush Bash’. Under the banner of charity organisation ‘Care Outreach’, the team travels to places like Eromanga, Windorah, Augathella, Quilpie and Cooladdi.
“It’s an amazing privilege to join these communities for an evening of the festive season”, Brendon said. “To hear the stories, and in the case of ‘Cooladdi’, to be part of their story – is an experience I’ll forever be grateful for.”
In the countdown to Christmas, spare a thought for those who battle to persevere through the elements and isolation. Like Cooladdi, may they know they’re not forgotten.
