Copperline – Method To My Madness

Country-rock outfit Copperline come bursting into 2026 with their new single ‘Method To My Madness’ – a freewheeling, guitar-snarling snapshot of a Friday night that starts with good intentions and ends somewhere far messier.

Built on quirky melodies, big, ragged riffs and Brad Christmas’ unmistakably husky vocal, ‘Method To My Madness’ captures that restless, reckless moment when heartbreak pushes you back into the world before you’re quite ready for it. The result is a song that sways between beer-soaked bravado and the quiet ache underneath.

“This is a song about a big night out on the town that goes a little sideways. It’s all about throwing yourself back out in the world after a heartbreak, when you’re perhaps not quite ready for it emotionally.”

That emotional tug-of-war is written all over the lyrics – from the opening lines “I was feeling way too sober for a Friday afternoon / Humming to the melody of some sad, sorry tune”, to the defiant mantra of the chorus: “Tonight I got nothing left to lose.” It’s Copperline doing what they do best – telling small, human stories that feel uncomfortably real, even when they’re wrapped in big, sing-along hooks.

The single was produced by multi award winning Shane Nicholson at Monkey Jump Studios, continuing one of Australian country-rock’s most trusted creative partnerships. Shane once again pushed the band deeper into the details, shaping a track that feels both loose and meticulously crafted.

“We’ve been working with Shane for a long time, and I can’t remember a song he’s spent more time working on. There was so much attention to detail with this song. So much time spent getting the vocal sound just right. We even recorded the left and right hand of the piano part to get the grove just right.”

‘Method To My Madness’ follows Copperline’s previous single ‘Sleepwalking’ and continues the momentum of a band sitting on a stack of new material – deep into sessions for their next album and clearly hitting a creative stride. With over 200k Spotify streams to date, and their breakout ballad ‘Lucinda’ passing 183k streams, Copperline are quietly building a catalogue that keeps finding new ears.

Their last record produced two AMRAP Top 10 singles – ‘Lucinda’ and ‘Walls’ – while ‘Lucinda’ also earned Ballad of the Year at the 2023 Australian Songwriters Association Awards as part of a run of five ASA nominations and three TSA Songwriting Award nominations.

On stage, the band have become fixtures of the Australian live circuit, appearing at the Tamworth Country Music Festival for six consecutive years – including three straight appearances on the massive Toyota Park stage – building a reputation as a raw, uncompromising live act with serious musical firepower. Following this year’s festival they’ll appear at Mixtape in Marrickville on Thursday 26th February, armed with a slew of new material.

With ‘Method To My Madness’, Copperline throw the doors open on their next chapter – louder, sharper, and emotionally fearless. It’s the sound of a band who know exactly who they are, even when the song insists there’s no method to any of it.
